How to Pick a Restaurant by the Wine List

Most people peruse food menus before selecting the restaurant they’d like to dine out at. I, on the other hand, prefer to select a restaurant by closely studying the wine list. Many restaurant websites these days do highlight their wine lists as well as food menus – and I like to think there are others out there like me. So, this is for you, wine lovers!

  1. Caffe e Cucina

Caffe e Cucina for me goes above and beyond, whilst it has a great array of wines in each of my favourite colours (yes, I don’t discriminate, I enjoy all colours, styles, and selections). They also have monthly sommelier suggestions, making everyone’s life particularly easy when selecting wine for a fussy companion at either a lunch or dinner date.

  1. Ormeggio

While you may have to dig a little deeper past the food menu on Ormeggio’s website, you’ll quickly understand why this restaurant has been awarded so often. It received three ‘glasses’ every year since 2013 in the Gourmet Traveller Australian Wine List of the Year Awards. With their strong focus on regions across Italy and Spain, an international wine lover like me is simply in heaven.

  1. Glebe Point

Glebe Point offers customers a global selection of all colours and types, many local favourites as well as some of our extravagant overseas competitors. The choice of a glass, bottle or cheeky 375ml carafe is always a winner in my book.

  1. L’Hotel Gitan

Last, but by no means least, a location I do venture to when visiting friends and colleagues in Melbourne is L’HotelGitan. This place offers its customers a casual innovative French fare coupled with an extensive international wine selection. Their list includes some of my favourite Bordeaux reds, which is always a pro for me.

You can use your Gourmet Traveller Gift Card not only to enjoy a great food experience, but also to taste some exquisite wines.
